Come on, I know I'm not the only one curious about how certain things go down in zero-g.

Let's answer the question: by nightflameblue (4.00 / 2) #3 Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:08:37 PM EST
How much thrust is generated by . . .

Wait, that might be too specific a question for the FIRST experiment in that vein.

I originally wrote that as "let's see if Peter North can knock himself out of orbit," but then I thought that might be distasteful.

Oops.

Vegas is fun by jayhawk88 (4.00 / 1) #4 Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:23:39 PM EST
So long as you keep your expectations low and the dosage small. "Crazy" Vegas is there of course but in my experience is almost never worth the price and/or effort. Example: The first time I went out there was with 4 of my friends when I was still single, we were all around ~25-27 I'd guess. We did a red eye out there on a Sunday and stayed until Thursday, way too long, we were all pretty much broke by Wed afternoon. Did incredibly stupid things like spending all afternoon in 100 degree heat drinking beer and walking the strip, paying way too much to get into some techno club, pissing off all our money at the sports book, and having a return flight that left about 10 hours after hotel checkout time, with nothing better to do (and no money to do anything with) than to go hang out at the airport.

You're right, Vegas spends a lot of money pimping the "OMG Wild Party Time" image, but ironically it's a lot more fun when you're married. Seriously, great spot to take a vacation for you now. Nice romantic hotel rooms, tons of great places to eat, a lot of shops and stuff you can just spend time walking around with the SO and browse. Things like Blue Man Group or Circ de Sole if you all are into that kind of stuff.

I'm bound to go by duxup (2.00 / 0) #8 Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:34:56 PM EST
I'm bound to give it a spin sometime regardless of my feelings about it.  I can't wait to bust out the woooooh! I'm having such a crazy corporately homogenized carefully monitored adult daycare wild time!

Truth be told, in some ways that's what I want in every vacation, except the "wooh".  I don't "wooh!".

I did like Circ de Sole the last time I went, but of course that was up here in the reasonably priced midwest.

mythbusters in space. not a bad idea.

Pretty much by duxup (2.00 / 0) #9 Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:40:39 PM EST
We'd have a similar concept of if it doesn't work find a way to make it spectacular kind of thing.  Of course these wouldn't be myths, or reasonable.  Nuking the moon for example wouldn't do much except be awesome.

Still, can you imagine the ratings?  Advertising could be as simple as can be.

June 10th 2011 09:00 CT.  We're going to nuke the ####ing moon!

You could have a whole two hour preshow about how it's being done, scientists objecting, protests and etc.  Arrange parties at observatories or telescope parties and etc.

but I have read about it.  It sounds like a good idea, except for the whole horking with the earth's rotation.

I think I'll have to put that on the problematic list.

I think part of the problem is her audience are supposed to be about 6 years old or something, a time when they should only be exposed to the 'healthy' body image of barbie dolls. Personally, I find the picture of her used here much more unsettling. I think the guy is her father?

Lots of people find that one more disturbing. by wiredog (4.00 / 1) #14 Tue May 13, 2008 at 07:39:34 AM EST
Especially since it's her father.

bike to work. by muchagecko (4.00 / 2) #16 Tue May 13, 2008 at 11:55:35 AM EST
How far is it? I'm looking at an 8 mile bike commute (16 miles r/t)  to work when my company moves in July. I'm not in shape for it now, but I'm trying on the weekend to get some rides in so I'm ready.

Riding to work is also a good way to stick it to the gas man!

About 15 or 20 miles by duxup (4.00 / 1) #18 Tue May 13, 2008 at 02:29:32 PM EST
That's a bit much for me both ways when I'm going to work.
